To Relieve Pain, We Track The “Path of Pain”

A couple of days ago, a woman called me to ask about a pain she was having on her shoulders. She said she only wants to do hijama on one side of her shoulders and she needs only one or two cups. I told her that is not the right way to relieve her pain. It may provide little relief only temporarily. Or it can have the adverse effect of increasing the pain due to cuts made at the wrong spots.

I explained to her, “For real relief, we need to track the entire path of pain as the pain is normally not localized in one or two spots but runs a path. We need to track the path of pain and then cup along the entire path.”

When there is pain in the body, we need to track the path of pain. Just putting one or two cups directly on the pain spots is a poor way of dealing with pain. For lasting relief, we need to track the path of pain and cup the entire path.

Pain is a vital function of the nervous system in providing the body with a warning of potential or actual injury. It is both a sensory and emotional experience, affected by psychological factors such as past experiences, beliefs about pain, fear or anxiety.

Pain is the body’s warning alarm that tells you something is wrong. If you ignore your body’s alarm, like ignoring a fire alarm in your house, severe problems can occur.

Human body functions are dependent on the life force energy. The life force energy and blood flow through specific pathways in the body, nourishing body tissues and helping them function. If the body is beset with disease or injury, pathological symptoms will appear which affect the organs and meridians. When a pathway is blocked, energy and blood are not able to move smoothly, and the affected area will not be able to get enough nutrition. You will begin to feel pain, tingling, stiffness, bloating or numbness.

The meridian system is like a network. Each meridian is connected with a specific organ. An organ’s deterioration may show up in the meridian while, conversely, the blockage of the meridian can affect the internal organ. When treating a pain condition, an experienced hijama practitioner will not only focus on the local pain but also work to rebalance and harmonize the entire energy pathway.

The sciatic nerve is a large nerve traveling in the leg. It originates from nerves starting in the lumbar spine which join together to form the sciatic nerve. The pain can be described as sharp or dull, burning or aching. It can be associated with numbness or tingling in the leg. It may begin with low back pain or start in the leg itself. The causes of sciatica include herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, lumbar spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, lumbar facet disease and pyriformis syndrome among others. With a person with sciatic nerve pain, it is important to track the whole pathway of pain and perform hijama on the entire pathway.

Meridian blockage can be caused externally by excessive cold, wind, dampness, dryness, fire (heat) or injury. It also can also be caused by emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, stress or depression, as well as an organ deficiency or malfunction.

Hijama can be used to correct the flow of energy. And herbal remedies can be used to reestablish and balance energy and blood to relieve pain.
